I made a supplementary podcast to the “Why Is Joan So Famous”-series on the Journey of Joan of Arc YouTube channel.
Here I read an excerpt from Christine de Pizan’s 1429 great poem about Joan and make a few comments in order to give an example of the effect Joan had on the imagination of her contemporaries.
The text is from the year Joan did her greatest deeds and it is therefore more ‘unfiltered’ as opposed to, say, the testimonies at the Nullification Trial 25 years later.
There is something really special about reading such an old text about such an emotional topic – and which was written in the year it all happened. There is a special power in that.
